Following important cannabis news articles every day can be a real burn-out, we know. That’s why the Emerald rolls up a chronicle of the headiest news hits, and passes them to you at the end of each week. We Bring You: The Digital Dime.
Canna-Montana
As of last Thursday, August 13th Montana is the sixth state in the U.S. that will be voting on cannabis legalization this coming November. Montanans will be voting for or against two separate cannabis measures.
According to High Times, Initiative 190 would “legalize possession and sale of small amounts” of cannabis for adult use. Accompanied, of course, by a new cannabis business licensing system, a 20% tax on recreational cannabis, and the ability to grow up to four mature cannabis cultivars at home.
If passed, Constitutional Initiative 118 would bump up the legal age for cannabis purchases from 18 to 21.
Tongues Off
The times of lovingly licked cannabis joints are over. This month, the Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA) announced a recall of over 3,000 pre-rolls. An employee at 3843 Euclid LLC licked the pre-rolled joints. In the time of COVID-19, not the smartest choice for both customers and other handlers at the manufacturing facility.
The safer alternative? Pre-sealed and pre-rolled cones.
My Maine Squeeze
Back in 2016, Maine residents voted to legalize adult-use cannabis. Starting on October 9th, Maine voters will finally be able to legally buy cannabis at retail locations. Took four years, but hey, at least they made it happen. The state’s Office of Marijuana Policy will issue the first recreational cannabis business licenses on September 8th.
Help Wanted
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) needs some help when it comes to developing regulations for CBD products. The agency announced on Thursday, August 13th that they are looking to hire a contractor to help study CBD and its effects.
The FDA states that the goal of these studies is to “develop a better understanding of the quantities of CBD and associated cannabinoids and their distribution” to “guide the development of future policy.”
Applications are due to the agency by August 31st.
