Toothpaste that’s good for you and good for the environment… now that’s something to smile about.
This week I tried out an all-natural toothpaste by Wildist. Wildest makes toothpaste and deodorant with cruelty-free ingredients that are safe for the environment.
I tried the company’s Brillimint flavored toothpaste, which comes in a 3.4 ounce mint-green tube with a screw-on cap.
Wildist’s Brillimint Toothpaste
$8 for 3.4 ounce tube
The packaging — which is 100% recyclable — was great. I really liked the tube it came in. It felt like a tube of acrylic paint and it was fun to push the toothpaste out.
The flavor pleasantly surprised me. Other mint toothpastes I have tried tend to be too strong to the point where it stings. This one, however, was more subtle. It had a really soft mint flavor, which was not overpowering at all.
The texture was light. Once I started brushing, it almost felt like there was no toothpaste at all. After brushing, my teeth felt clean and there was minimal taste left in my mouth.
This toothpaste did its job; it cleaned my teeth and made them feel fresh. I used it for a week and though I didn’t notice any drastic differences from my normal toothpaste, I did notice that my teeth felt pretty clean throughout the day. If that’s all you’re looking for, this could be a great option for you. It costs $8, which is more expensive than some brands like Colegate that usually run under $5 for the same size tube or bigger. Wildist, however, is one of the most affordable options on the market for natural and environmentally friendly toothpastes.
All-Natural Toothpaste
The Brillimint version that I tried is a basic everyday toothpaste made to clean your teeth and keep plaque away. Wildist does have two other versions of toothpaste, also priced at $8. Those include Dreamomile, a nighttime option with added charcoal and chamomile to help whiten your teeth and to help you sleep, and Soothinger, which is made for those with sensitive teeth.
The company’s website does include a small disclaimer for Soothinger. It reads:
“To be clear, none of our pastes have the chemical numbing agent, Potassium Nitrate, that some “sensitive” toothpastes use to numb your nerves. If you’re looking for the full numbing effect that comes with Potassium Nitrate, Wildist might not be right for you.”
Something unique that I found about this company is that they offer a complete list of all the ingredients they use. The list includes a description of each ingredient, and compares it to other products, which I found really helpful and informative.
In terms of environmentally friendly, natural toothpastes, Brillimint is a great option. I liked the flavor and the recyclable packaging. And because I’m always looking for ways to help the environment, I would recommend this to others, and I plan on continuing to use it.
