In 1964, human rights activist Malcolm X proclaimed, “education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
Malcolm’s allusion to the overwhelming power of education and its ability to propel individuals into the life that they seek grows even more pronounced each day. For Tamara Anderson, an entrepreneur on the cutting edge of her industry, this opportunity to educate the masses led to her most recent business development, Culinary and Cannabis.
Culinary, Cannabis and so Much More
Culinary and Cannabis is a cannabis-centric, interactive, educational event platform that connects physicians with food and drink experts and consumers. The company is based out of Irvine, California.
Culinary and Cannabis Events offers a variety of in-person and virtual events. For example, those include sessions on cooking with cannabis and creating infused delicacies, and monthly topical-making workshops with live virtual instructors.
The company also offers a Wellness Club. Members receive DIY kits, and access to recorded, hour-long classes, which they can attend at their convenience. Each lesson includes a spiritual wellness aspect, as the company embodies a holistic approach to self care.
Sugar & Spyked
Anderson developed the series of cannabis courses after she noticed two gaps in the market. She noticed the first while managing her initial business, Sugar & Spyked.
As an alcohol-infused dessert catering company and bakery, Sugar & Spyked developed quite a following with their intoxicating treats. Anderson’s Southern California clientele regularly inquired about her infused delicacies, which prompted her to embark on a quest for knowledge.
Anderson’s extensive research led her to a multitude of recipes. She then realized that she needed to find an experienced Chef de Cannabis Cuisine to provide calculations and appropriate dosages.
Moreover, while on this journey for knowledge, she realized that the information she was looking for was heavily sought after. Therefore the platform for planning cannabis-centric interactive events was born.
Education is Everything
The second inspiration for Anderson was her son.
Anderson and her son were born with an extremely rare medical condition that many commonly refer to as Job’s syndrome. Job’s syndrome is a severe immunodeficiency disorder that renders the host sensitive to invading microbes, most notably staphylococcus bacteria (staph).
The severity of Job’s syndrome varies. But those living with the condition typically have multiple chronic ailments as a result of their body’s inability to ward off infection. Examples of such are (but are not limited to) skin infection, lesions, boils, and lung infections that can cause pneumonia.
Anderson, who has a milder form of Job’s Syndrome compared to her son, started her professional career in the medical field. As a nurse, she regularly worked with patients suffering from a variety of debilitating diseases. For these patients, long-term use of pain medication could mean exposure to uncomfortable short-term side effects and long-term organ failure.
When Anderson’s son was diagnosed with Job’s syndrome at the age of 14, she recognized that cannabis allowed him to enjoy all of his favorite activities, and helped him live with his immunodeficiency disorder before his death in March 2017.
Anderson told Emerald that cannabis could have saved her son’s life. She strongly feels that the importance of educating society on the benefits of cannabis could be the difference in an individual’s quality of life or between losing a loved one.
Moving Forward
Culinary and Cannabis Events is onto something big. The potential for this model is only beginning to bloom. Anderson hopes to further develop her model by establishing a nationwide directory that can connect consumers with industry professionals from all ends of the cannabis spectrum. She is taking tomorrow with her preparedness today and she’s providing the opportunity for knowledge for all those who seek it along the way.
