In the cannabis extract market, there is a pronounced tension. Either the products that an average consumer needs to smoke extracts are unaffordable or they are of less-than-desired quality. Quality certainly is crucial when dealing with temperatures ranging somewhere between 400-800 degrees. Not only that, but extracts themselves, such as dabs, are relatively pricey—albeit the price is worth it due to the duration of the high, the potency and the overall quality.
So, consumers don’t want to spend $500 on a glass rig, and then $200 on a banger. But they also don’t want to buy a piece that will ultimately waste their extract and or immediately need replacing.
Bear Quartz enters the market at this exact unoccupied intersection. The company provides reasonably-priced, high-quality extract accessories. This is exactly why Bear Quartz began in 2019 and decided to make their signature products.
This emergence was well-received, since Bear Quartz is now available both nationally and internationally in over a thousand retail locations. For instance, the store locator on their website literally makes America look as if it’s been overthrown by bears, little grizzly bear faces sprawled everywhere, covering the country. And all this has all happened within only three years of Bear Quartz selling their products.
The Bear and The Mood Mat
Beyond supplying reasonably-priced and premium-quality products, Bear Quartz also re-invented some really crucial products in the extract market. But before we get into that, it’s important to address the bear.
The grizzly bear is in the name; it’s the logo; it’s the mascot; and the company features it on most of their products. The bear is important to Bear Quartz for two reasons. First, it represents their home-state of California, and second, bears love honey—and extracts look a lot like honey, so watch out, Winnie the Pooh, and make sure that honey isn’t THC extract.
The Bear Quartz Mood Mat is one of the best-selling products. It’s essentially a coaster for a rig (or bong). It covers the surface-area of the rig, it provides extra padding for the glass and catches any dripping extract.
Mood Mat is a company that Bear Quartz collaborates with to create these bong-and-rig coasters using only upcycled materials. Upcycled products are made from discarded items. In the case of Mood Mats, this includes everything from, “wetsuits, gaskets, weatherstripping, wheelchair seat molds, stock car tires,” and more, according to their website.
Bear Quartz intermittently releases their Mood Mat collabs based on seasons, events and sometimes just randomly. As a representative of Bear Quartz told Emerald, “every single one has a story behind it. Every single one of them means something. We love it and we’re going to keep going with it. We enjoy the hell out of it.”
Their customers seem to love them too. For example, their seasonal pumpkin bear mood mat sold out last year and is sought after by Mood Mat collectors. But connoisseurs are sure to be satisfied because this year the company is releasing a limited-edition Halloween Zombie Bear Mood Mat.
The Innovation of Bear Quartz
Now let’s return to the innovative factor of Bear Quartz. Bear Quartz has three products that are especially distinct from other available extract products.
First, there is the quartz Highbrid Banger, which brings together two kinds of previously distinct models of bangers—flat bottom and round bottom—creating a hybrid model that has the benefits of both. The traditional banger is a version of a bong downstem but for a dab rig, with a dish that holds the extract and is heated with a torch and is inhaled through the rig.
Flat bottom bangers, for example, have better heat retention (they stay hotter longer), and round bottom bangers are easier to clean (since there are no rigid walls and rather a curved surface).
Bear Quartz re-invented the banger and circumvented the round bottom versus flat bottom problem. They did this by introducing a banger that has a flat bottom on the outside (for heat retention) and a round bottom on the inside (for easy cleaning).

Then, there is the Bear Slurper. The Bear Slurper draws from the already existing product of the terp slurper—and makes it even better (and of course, with an accompanying bear etched on the bottom).
A terp slurper is a form of a banger. But having a bottom dish, an extra tube that leads to the bottom dish and a mid-section with micro-slits that percolates the vapor. This additional mechanism helps prevent waste. For instance, the percolator helps reduce burnage by constantly moving the extract and injecting air as the consumer inhales.
Bear Quartz re-invented this product with their Bear Slurper by creating a restrictor in the middle and by making the top and bottom equal diameter, which enables better airflow. As the Bear Quartz rep explained, “anyone who uses our bear slurper versus any other slurper understands the difference right away. Just the way it delivers is completely different.”
Lastly, there is the American/import glass combo, which is one of the only products of its kind on the market. While imported glass and American-made glass are normally in opposition to one another—occupying different price ranges while vying for the same consumers—Bear Quartz brought them together in their American/import combo boxes. These boxes feature an American made rig and a Bear Quartz banger together. Take the Kenta Kito X Bear Quartz box, for example. This box has a Kenta Kito rig (an American glass artist) and a Bear Quartz banger. This product undermines the distinction between American-made/import and the accompanying quality versus non-quality dichotomy that comes with it.
Bear Quartz and the Future of Extract-Products
Bear Quartz is changing the extract-space by supplying premium-quality glass at a reasonable price. Beyond this, they’re providing items for the conscious dabber. This includes the upcycled Mood Mats and the biodegradable cotton swab. They’re even re-inventing some products and expanding the possibilities for consuming extract.
As the company explains, “Bear Quartz is the best, we’re number one and we’re going to do everything we can to stay that way!”
We believe them and can’t wait to see their next products!
