For both novice and experienced cannabis users, cannabis subscription boxes have been growing in popularity over the last few years. A cannabis subscription box is a great way to try new products, and can often include everything a stoner would need for a session, minus the actual cannabis. Cannabox, an increasingly popular cannabis subscription box, has found success in the industry by featuring exclusive themed glass designs in every box and incredible new cannabis products to try.
Featuring six to eight products curated to match the monthly theme and a QR code leading to an unboxing, Cannabox allows subscribers to choose their level of commitment. With monthly, three-month or six-month billing options, Cannabox costs each subscriber about $30 a month or a one-time fee per month of $35.99 for those who want a lighter commitment. February’s theme was “Level Up,” which focuses on the pixelated, brightly-colored aesthetics of 8-bit video games. If there’s anything we know how to do after a good smoke, it’s play video games.
Cannabox Clipper Lighter
$1.99 from Cannabox
Almost every Cannabox sent out since the box’s inception has included a custom-designed Clipper lighter to fit the theme. We like these refillable lighters—for us, the hexagonal spark wheel is easier to light, while the circular shape fits better in our hands. This Cannabox lighter is absolutely adorable—it’s envied by ganja-loving gamers everywhere.
This Cannabox lighter is bright red and features a printed design of a pixelated sword that a character might carry in a video game. Though many lighter designs prominently feature the word “Cannabox,” this one is simply a cute graphic with no text. That makes it easier to use in public without outing oneself as a cannabis user. Carrying our sword-printed lighter made us feel like the main character in an RPG—we’re prepared for any cannabis battle.
Cannabox Bristle Pipe Cleaners (30 ct)
$2.99 from Cannabox
Cleaning glass and silicone cannabis pieces can be a hassle, especially if one doesn’t have the proper tools to make the job easier. The best bet for a clean piece is often a liquid cleaner. However, wire pipe cleaners make clearing blockages and scrubbing residue much less difficult. These Cannabox pipe cleaners are about 6 inches in length—about the perfect length for any hand-held pipe or stem of a water pipe.
These cleaners are white and red, which reminded us vaguely of peppermint candy—weird for a box with a “gamer” theme. When placed next to the other red items in the box, however, the pipe cleaners fit in nicely. We believe grabbing a bundle of pipe cleaners is an easy and effective way for all smokers to keep their pieces pristine, and these Cannabox pipe cleaners are just cute enough to work.
Kong Wraps CBD+ (Hippy Honey)
$3.00 from Kong Wraps
People love blunts—it’s just a fact. The Cannabox creators chose these blunt wraps as a tribute to Donkey Kong, as evidenced by the name and modern design of a gorilla on the packaging. These wraps are quality. They are formulated without tobacco, nicotine, GMOs or preservatives. The vegan wraps are made in Mexico and are 100% organic hemp. Each package contains two hemp wraps, each about 6 inches long.
Subscribers could receive the flavors of “Natural,” “Mango Tango” and “Hippy Honey.” We received the honey flavor. We could definitely smell and taste the flavor in these wraps right away—surprisingly sweet and strong but not overbearing. These Kong Organic Hemp Wraps are sure to leave you riding a honey-flavored high and “smoking like a king.”
Hempire Natural Gum Cigarette Papers (King Size)
About $2.00 at any local smoke shop
This box has something for every type of cannabis smoker, and joint-lovers are no exception. These king size papers make rolling easy, especially if you’re not that great at rolling but want to get better. Two inches across of space make wrapping a cinch, while the natural gum sealant only needs a lick or two to be effective. Too much moisture can destroy the integrity of the paper and lead to rips and tears.
While we don’t normally use rolling papers, these Hempire papers might become an exception. Produced with pure hemp, the papers are smooth and organic. They were chosen for this box because of the package design, which reminded Cannabox creators of old video games. We wish there was more information about the papers themselves on the box or on the Cannabox website. However, Hempire goes out of its way to educate users on a variety of ways to roll with plenty of instructional videos on their site.
Cannabox “8-bit Heart” T-shirt
Exclusive to “Level Up” Cannabox
We knew right away that the “Level Up” gaming theme was going to manifest itself mostly in the glass and clothing parts of the box. For those who love cannabis-themed apparel, this heather-gray T-shirt with a quippy design was no disappointment. We do feel the sizes run a bit big, as the medium we ordered fits more like a large. We combatted this by cropping our tee to a trendier length, though we do believe this 90% cotton shirt could be potentially shrunken in the wash.
This soft shirt features a pixel-art version of the Cannabox heart pipe next to text that reads “It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this.” At first glance the heart pipe design appears simply as a pixelated heart, which makes this Cannabox T-shirt not only comfortable but versatile.
Cannabox “8-bit” Heart Mini-Bong
$34.99 from Cannabox
Now for what every Cannabox lover has been waiting for since January—the exclusively custom-designed glass piece that Cannabox sends out every month. Previous designs include a skyscraper, octopus, and more, all made at the Cannabox Glass studio. Cannabox is known for their unique glass, and this pixelated heart-shaped water pipe is no exception. Featuring transparent red glass and gold lettering along the base, this pipe is perfect for both the “Level Up” theme and Valentine’s Day.
Although this pipe pulls pretty effortlessly, the bowl itself is tiny and probably not meant for sharing (but hey, we’re okay with that). Like other Cannabox bongs we’ve tried, this one whistles a small bit when in use. We’re unsure if this is a flaw of the design or a result of the smaller bowl. While Cannabox usually creates each glass piece with attention and care, our 8-bit Heart pipe felt pretty shoddily thrown together. The heart sits slightly lopsided on the base, while the junction is covered in melted glass. However, Cannabox has a reputation for excellent customer service, and unsatisfied customers can open a support ticket here.
To The Next Level
Overall, we were extremely pleased with our Cannabox subscription. We thought the “Level Up” theme was a fantastic way to avoid the cliches of a Valentine’s Day theme while still giving subscribers a glass piece that felt unique, exciting, and relevant. For $30, this box is more expensive than many other cannabis subscription boxes, but Groupon offers a discount for first-time subscribers. We believe the box is worth it for the glass alone, and Cannabox promises subscribers that a box’s value will always be higher than the cost of all items combined.
Each product in this Cannabox subscription was one we never tried before, and we definitely have found some new favorites. We love the thought that went into designing the glass and shirt to match the theme. We anticipate sticking around for at least one more month. The March theme is “Road Trip,” featuring psychedelic visuals and colors, and we cannot wait to see what incredible designs and products Cannabox features next.
We give this box 4.5 out of 5 emeralds for value, creativity, and usefulness. The questionable craftsmanship of the 8-bit Heart Mini-Bong deducts half of an emerald.
