Cannabis in all of it’s forms stands to offer the world and its inhabitants many exceptional benefits. One of the benefits that hemp offers the world is the option to produce more environmentally friendly and safer clothing options in comparison to traditional fabrics such as cotton, polyester, or rayon to name a few. Hemp was utilized as a primary textile for many years before it became criminalized alongside its psychoactive cousin.
Thanks to rising global awareness, hemp is making a comeback! Today you can find dozens of different manufacturers and distributors of hemp-based clothing. One of those, however, has a mission to not only clothe the world in hemp, but to educate the world through their fashion line. The Cannabis Activist Clothing (CAC) fashion line is designed to spark conversation and to educate others through hemp facts and quotes printed on their t-shirts.
CAC was founded in 2016 and aims to help cannabis activists be heard without saying a word. I had the pleasure of speaking with the founder of CAC, Dustin Kay, back when it all started last year. In November of 2016, CAC launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign but unfortunately was only able to raise $33,000 of the $100,000 goal. Being that they did not reach their goal, the campaign received no actual funding. This process, however, allowed CAC to gain “many new contacts in the industry and much-needed exposure in the market,” according to Dustin.
Since the campaign, CAC amped up their resources and revamped their website as well as introduced some new items including hemp crop tops for women, a universal hemp hat line, mugs and mouse pads. In the fourth quarter of 2017, they plan to launch another crowdfunding campaign to raise the capital needed to bring to market a new line of men and women’s hemp designs, which will include hats, bags, and belts. They also hope to bring more skirt, shirt, and hoodie designs to their catalog within the coming months.
Despite the lack of funding and the setbacks, CAC is here to stay. When I recently spoke with Dustin he mentioned that CAC had faced many hurdles including, but not limited to high manufacturing minimums, and lack of resources. However, this hasn’t deterred them from their mission though. As Dustin stated, “we believe in the message, we believe in our style and most importantly, we believe in our product which is high-quality hemp!”
When I asked Dustin to tell me in his own words why consumers should support CAC, he said “The Cannabis Activist Clothing line gives you the fashionable ability to support hemp not only by buying and wearing quality hemp clothing but also by spreading the awareness of cannabis/hemp in comfort and style,” he added. “ [CAC] is quality hemp designed for cannabis supporters to Be Heard Without Saying a Word.”
All Cannabis Activist Clothing apparel is printed on a blend of 55 percent hemp and 45 percent organic cotton cut and sewn here in the U.S. Products in their line include, but are not limited to hoodies, skirts, T-shirts, tanks, and sundresses. CAC offers apparel options for both reserved and outspoken activists. Every product from the company represents cannabis in a hempsational and classy manner.
