Can I Get A…Green Light
Hip-hop mogul and entrepreneur, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, announced the launch of his new joint venture and cannabis brand, Monogram. The launch expands on his existing relationship with California-based company, Caliva, with whom he has already been employed as a chief brand strategist since 2019. According to reporting by Ganjapreneur, the new initiative “seeks to redefine what cannabis means to consumers today.”
Smoke for a Cause
Television network BET announced a new documentary titled Smoke: Marijuana + Black America. The film examines the cultural, social, economic, and legal impact of cannabis on American society and the Black community. It is set to premier Wednesday, November 18th at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The documentary, which is narrated and executive produced by Nasir “Nas” Jones, traces the “political and racial dynamics [that] led to the criminalization of cannabis and eventually its prohibition.”
Justice HIGHlight
Purdue Pharma, the company labeled as one of the main perpetrators in the opioid epidemic, pleaded guilty for their part in the crisis that is still raging its way across the country. The company has pleaded guilty to illegally marketing OxyContin and are facing hefty fines upwards of $8.3 billion dollars. As reported by the New York Times, both Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family—who own Purdue Pharma—are not precluded from further charges being leveled against them.
