When our minds run rampant with thoughts of schedules, dates, and deadlines, we can forget to set aside the time to rest and relax. In fact, according to a study published by the American Institute of Stress, nearly half of Americans reported lying awake at night due to stress.
Prioritizing time to unwind is important to prevent mental burnout from high-stress levels. In an attempt to help minimize stress and promote relaxation, CBDFX has released CBD-infused sleep and calming supplements.
CBDFX sent me the sleep and calming supplements along with a few extra self-care goodies to try out. The package arrived in time for me to try out at the end of a stressful week of midterm exams.
In order to give my honest review, I have been testing their products for the last couple of weeks to see if I notice an improvement in my quality of sleep and stress levels.
300 mg of CBD
CBDFX’s sleep gummies are made with the natural sleep aid, melatonin, and a broad-spectrum CBD formula. According to WebMD, melatonin works to regulate sleep cycles and to shorten the length of time it takes to fall asleep.
I noticed an improvement in how fast it took me to fall asleep after I took these gummies. Following the recommended dosage, I took two gummies 30 minutes before bedtime. I felt the effects quickly. Within the first 15 minutes, I began to feel sleepy. Fifteen minutes after that, the effects fully took over, and I transcended into a deep sleep.
When taking the gummies, I noticed that I would experience vivid lucid dreaming. This phenomenon — which occurs when dreamers know they’re dreaming — can be a side effect of taking melatonin. Melatonin allows for the mind to enter deep REM sleep- which increases the chance of vivid dreaming, according to Healthline.
The gummies are a nice treat at the end of the night. They have a natural lemon taste that is accompanied by a hint of hemp. I admire the fact that the gummies are an all-natural vegan formula, with a shortlist of ingredients. Besides hemp and melatonin, the other beneficial ingredients making up the sleep blend are passionflower, chamomile, lemon balm, and magnesium.
The Gummies’ Test Results
Taking a look at the lab test results, I can see that the gummies contain a THC-free broad-spectrum blend with cannabinoids like CBD and CBG. But the lab test results show that the product has been mislabelled. There is more CBD than advertised. The product is advertised to have 300 mg of CBD, however, the lab test shows that there is over 350 mg of CBD per bottle. That means the serving size is closer to 6 mg of CBD rather than the 5 mg advertised.
CBD products are generally rated in a scale of accuracy. A (excellent), B (decent), C (poor), F (fail). Research shows, to receive an “A” rating a product must have -/+10% of CBD content that is depicted on the labeling. Because CBDFX’s gummies are about 16% over what’s advertised, the product would score a “B” on the scale of accuracy.
Overall, the gummies provide a great option for calming the mind and falling asleep faster. I liked how the gummies gave me vivid dreams. But for some, this could be a frightening experience. Though these gummies work as advertised, the label reads the wrong dosage which is misleading.
Rating: 3.5/5 Emeralds
900 mg of CBD per bottle
The night capsules combine the benefits of CBD (30 mg per serving) and CBN (2.5 mg per serving), taking advantage of the “entourage effect” for a good night’s rest.
According to CBDFX, the entourage effect is “the cumulative effect of a multitude of cannabinoids working in harmony.” In other words, they work together to take the body and mind to a deeply relaxing state, resulting in a restful night’s sleep.
Besides CBD and CBN, the night capsules also contain the sleep-enhancing botanical, Valerian root. Several studies show that taking Valerian root before bed may improve the ability to fall asleep, stay asleep, and achieve a higher quality of sleep, reports Healthline.
When I tried the sleep capsules, I took the recommended serving (two capsules) with a full glass of water as instructed. The capsules were quite big. This was not a huge deal for me, but if you have troubles with swallowing pills, it could be an issue. I took the capsules 30 minutes before my usual bedtime. The capsules took longer to feel the effects when compared to the gummies. I ended up falling asleep around my usual time, so I don’t think the capsules helped me to fall asleep quicker.
Although the capsules didn’t make me fall asleep faster, they did help me achieve a night of deep, restful sleep. On the nights where I took the capsules before bed, I slept the whole night through, achieving eight-plus hours of sleep. The morning after taking the capsules, I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to seize the day without any groggy “sleep-hangover.”
Looking at the lab test results the night capsules are within the -/+10% bracket, which would give the capsules an “A” on the accuracy scale. Specifically, results show the capsules contain 30.9 mg of CBD each.
50 mg of CBD
I decided to treat myself to a relaxing spa night using CBDFX’s face mask and bath bomb. While I ran the bath, I applied the calming sheet mask. Opening the mask’s packaging, I could smell the calming lavender scent right away. The mask was fully saturated, which was nice, but it did make it a little tricky to unfold.
The mask comes with an attached plastic layer. The instructions say to peel off the plastic layer after applying the mask. But since it was tricky to unfold the mask, the plastic separated anyways. I didn’t see the point of the plastic sheet. Having used other sheet masks that come without a plastic layer, it seemed a bit unnecessary to include and it contributes to the high amount of single-use plastic waste.
I applied the sheet mask and left it on for the reccomended 10 minutes. The lavender smell provided a sense of aromatherapy and gave the calming feeling it claimed it would. Not only did it calm my mind and senses, but after taking the mask off, my skin looked noticeably better.
I usually have redness on my forehead and at the time I had a breakout. The lavender and CBD in the face mask improved the look of my skin and evened out my skin tone. I liked the mask; it was super relaxing and provided noticeable results. The only downside is the seemingly unnecessary single-use plastic.
200 mg of CBD
I am typically not a bath person, but having a CBD-infused bath bomb made me take the time to treat myself to a relaxing soak. Using the face mask and the bath bomb together was a nice treat. But the bath bomb didn’t have much of a lavender scent compared to the face mask, which was a little disappointing.
I did enjoy the effects of the CBD though. While I was in the bath, I didn’t feel the effects very much, but after stepping out of the bath, my muscles felt very relaxed and my skin felt softer. The renewed feeling my muscles and joints felt after the bath was a deep relief. As a result, I recommend the calming bath bomb to anyone who suffers from body aches and pain.
But taking a look at the lab test results, the product has been mislabeled again. The bath bomb has almost 10 mg less CBD than advertised. This is nearly 5% less than advertised, so the product would still score an “A” rating.
Overall, each product did what it was intended to do. I preferred the gummies for sleeping since I am someone who has trouble falling asleep. The capsules didn’t help me to fall asleep faster, but instead they helped me stay asleep.
I consider CBDFX products to sit at an average to low price point. The price of the sleep supplements is average when compared to others on the market. Where the face mask and bath bomb sit closer to the lower price point when compared to similar infused self-care products.
Some products don’t live up to the labelling though. The gummies and face mask had more CBD than advertised, where the bath bomb had less. The only accurately labeled product were the capsules. So checking out the lab test results should be considered when shopping from CBDFX.
