When experiencing chronic pain, it’s easy to want to stay put and sedentary. For many, living with pain induces an inactive lifestyle. However, daily exercise can be a beneficial treatment to recover from the effects of pain.
According to Healthline, exercise can help to decrease inflammation, increase mobility, decrease overall pain levels and even improve the mental health of those suffering from it. But, when experiencing chronic pain, the thought of working out can be intimidating.
I tried Bodega Wellness’s Solace Pain Salve to help me take control of my chronic knee pain and power through my workouts.
Pre-Workout Pain Relief
A little goes a long way! This salve is high potency compared to other CBD pain salves I have tried on the market, with a whopping 1,000 mg of 100% hemp-extracted CBD. Studies have proven CBD to be an effective pain reliever for those experiencing muscle and joint pain, due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
The salve also includes menthol that works in combination with the CBD, giving a nice cooling sensation that melts into the muscles and joints, inducing a calming effect.
My exercise intensity tends to vary. Some days I like to go for a walk and other days I am squatting and lunging with heavy weights. During my workouts without using a pain salve, I would typically experience pain and discomfort in my knees, especially when weightlifting.
I benefited from using the salve before both high and low-intensity workouts. Using the Solace Pain Salve for pre-workout relief, I like to apply it 15-20 minutes before my workout.
With the salve as pre-workout pain relief, I was able to get more out of my workouts as it noticeably reduced my pain. Relieving the discomfort allowed for me to have a wider range of motion, getting more out of my workouts.

Post-Workout Muscle Recovery
Since the Solace Salve is coconut oil and beeswax-based, it can take on a more solid consistency with the coolness from A/C blasting this summer. I like to keep my jar of salve nearby the shower to allow it to soften for the perfect after-shower rub.
The salve has helped me reduce the feeling of tired and sore muscles when used as a post-workout balm. Additionally, the Solace Salve is multifaceted and can be used to treat different types of pain. My mom is a hairdresser, constantly working with her hands. The salve has been there to help relieve her sore joints at the end of the day.
Overall, relieving the pain and discomfort in my knees has allowed me to get back to the gym with fewer rest days in between. I can now push my limits when it comes to workout intensity without worrying about the discomfort.
