(Santa Barbara, CA – September 17, 2018) The City of Santa Barbara issued a commercial cannabis business license conditional approval letter for Santa Barbara Manufacturing and Supply (SBMS) to move forward in gaining the necessary permits to begin operations as a cannabis manufacturing, distribution, and delivery business at their location on Gutierrez Street in Santa Barbara. SBMS hopes to have fulfilled all such requirements before the end of 2018.
“Our goal is to be up and running by the New Year,” said Ryan Howe, a principle with SBMS. “We plan to roll out the delivery and distribution segments first and then establish the product manufacturing shortly thereafter.”
To capitalize on the experiences of Colorado cannabis industry leaders who blazed the trail, SBMS will have as a partner one of the founders of Concentrate Supply, a major manufacturer and distributor in Colorado.
“Instead of re-inventing the wheel,” says Howe, “we are partnering with one of the most successful firms in the Colorado cannabis business. They have gone through this already and, with their guidance and experience, we can hopefully bypass any potential pitfalls that many new companies experience.”
Howe is also the principle for The Canopy Health & Wellness Center, a medical cannabis dispensary on Milpas Street. “Santa Barbara county, along with Humbolt, account for more than 50% of the licensed marijuana growers in California according to the latest analysis of New Frontier Data. The high quality of Santa Barbara grown plants makes a local manufacturing business a natural extension of our business.”
Howe has invested over three years and $2 million in the cannabis business in Santa Barbara. The Canopy currently employs 14 people and plans to more than triple that number with SBMS. The tax revenues generated will help the City of Santa Barbara and employ more locals.
