California has been at the forefront of the cannabis industry since becoming the first state to legalize medical cannabis in 1996. Now, a 30,000-square-foot cannabis museum is coming to Hollywood.
The company responsible for the museum is WeedMaps, a Los Angeles based cannabis technology and media company that’s been advising consumers on what to buy and where to buy it since 2008. Being one of the longest running and most popular online cannabis communities, WeedMaps has officially announced plans to open a pop-up Museum of Weed on Aug. 3rd. Located at 720 N. Cahuenga Blvd. in Hollywood, the museum will feature seven exhibits narrating the history of cannabis.
While cannabis is already legal in California both medicinally and recreationally, there are still many issues with local governments and a lack of awareness regarding people who have already been put in jail due to prohibitions.
Weedmaps CEO Chris Beals reported his hopes to Los Angeles Times that the museum is able to play a role in the fight against stigmatization through education on laws and regulations, social and racial motivations and more. “There are so many sources of information and misinformation,” he stated. “Something like this, can play some role, we think, in educating constituents.” In a time where most people’s knowledge of cannabis is coming from a friend during a smoke-sesh, or social media, a safe space for casual education would be exactly what the community needs.
Tickets for the museum, located at 720 Cahuenga Blvd. in LA are available online only, with general admission priced at $35. Keep in mind, there will be no sales or consumption of cannabis within the space, and all guests must be at least 18 years of age.
