Surgeon General Comments on Cannabis Prohibition
In an interview with CNN’s State of the Union host, Dana Bash, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said “I don’t think that there is value to individuals or to society to lock people up for marijuana use.” He added, “I don’t think that serves anybody well.” Murthy also elaborated on the need for science-based policy, further stating that “as surgeon general that’s my role, […] to help people understand what science tells us and where there are gaps, to help fill those gaps with research and with honest inquiry,” reports Yahoo! Finance.
Industry Pioneer, French Cannoli, Dies at age 64
On Saturday, July 18th, Cami Cannoli aka Frenchy Cannoli, died suddenly from complications from surgery. His wife, Kimerbly, made the announcement via Instagram, and highlighted his passion for teaching. Cannoli is fondly remembered as a mentor, and master hash-maker. He shared his traditional techniques — which he learned during his travels across the world — with worldwide audiences in the form of seminars, videos, a docu-series, and more.
Lawmakers Seek Support to Protect State and Tribal Cannabis Laws
According to a Dear Colleague letter lawmakers shared in Congress and with Marijuana Moment; legislators are creating an amendment to prevent the Department of Justice (DOJ) from interfering with state and Tribal cannabis laws. More specifically, the amendment would prevent the DOJ from using funds to enforce federal cannabis policies. The letter further notes that many state initiatives to legalize cannabis were passed by voters. “We believe that the federal government should not interfere with these programs and the will of the citizens of these states,” the letter also reads.
