Ever since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, people are much more conscious of sharing things such as beverages, food, and cannabis to avoid spreading germs, according to The Spokesman Review.
Cannabis use is a very social activity. It is fun to pass around a joint with friends, but it isn’t necessarily the most sanitary thing, especially during the pandemic. Often, people don’t know when the last time someone cleaned their bong or pipe was, or how many people have taken a hit of the joint that someone’s passing around.
This is why mouthpieces are a good option to safely share cannabis with others. A mouthpiece is a silicone accessory that goes over the part of the mouthpiece of a bong or pipe or the tip of a joint. That way if people are sharing a cannabis device in a group setting, they can just slip the mouthpiece over the smoking device without having to worry about spreading germs.
Moose Labs’ mouthpieces come in a variety of shapes and sizes, which consumers can use for flower or concentrates. Also, according to Moose Labs — which is family owned and operated — the replaceable filters that come with both the MouthPeace and the MouthPeace Mini use triple-layer filtration. This helps to remove resins, contaminants, and tar particles from each inhale, while still allowing smaller molecules like THC and CBD to pass through.

I tested out Moose Labs’ silicone MouthPeace and the MouthPeace Mini, which came in a set with mini filters. These mouthpieces are the first physician-backed germ-preventing accessories that consumers can use on different cannabis devices, according to the company.
Moose Labs’ MouthPeaces + Filters
$9.99 per MouthPeace, $6.99-$7.99 for a 10 pack of filters
I used the MouthPeace and the MouthPeace Mini on a pre-roll I had recently purchased from a local dispensary. Both come in a starter pack which includes filters. Consumers can also purchase extra filters as well.
I had never used a silicone mouthpiece before. But to use it, I simply slipped it on the side of the joint I inhaled from.

Pros
But upon my first inhale, I immediately noticed that I coughed way less than I usually do when taking a hit. I usually cough a lot the first few hits I take, so this was something that pleasantly surprised me. Immediately, I also noticed that the flavor of the joint itself was less harsh than it usually tastes. I still got the authentic taste without it being too overpowering or burning my lungs.
I preferred the size of the MouthPeace Mini much more than the regular-sized MouthPeace as it fit the joint better. The MouthPeace Mini fit the joint well, as it wasn’t too loose but not too tight or difficult to remove either. The mini was also less awkward to use compared to the regular size, which is better designed for bongs. Unfortunately, because I don’t own a bong, I wasn’t able to try it that way. The MouthPeace Mini, however, is much better for joints, blunts, or vaporizers.

Cons
One con I found with these mouthpieces is that they didn’t come with any instructions or descriptions on the packaging. I personally am not too familiar with mouthpieces, and it would have been helpful if there was a short description of how exactly to place the silicone mouthpiece over the joint, as well as how to position the filter inside the mouthpiece as well.
Also, I feel like removing the mouthpiece is a bit of a hassle when sharing a joint, especially if sharing with multiple people. However, the main function seems to be the filter, which helps protect the lungs.
According to the Moose Labs website, when to change the filter depends on how much cannabis one is consuming. However, the company recommends that users change the filter every four to seven hits for bigger hits and every 15 for smaller hits. After using the MouthPeace on the joint, the filter wasn’t very dirty at all, so I could see these filters lasting a while.
Would I Recommend?
The MouthPeace starter kits are $9.99, which I feel is a very good price considering how good the quality is. They will likely last a long time. Also, Moose Labs products are fairly priced when compared to similar mouthpieces that consumers can find on sites like Amazon.
Overall, I think that the MouthPeace and MouthPeace Mini are things that would be greatly beneficial in a group setting if sharing cannabis with others is a concern. However, the mouthpieces do help make the taste less harsh, which means less coughing, so this product would definitely be great for someone who hasn’t had a lot of experience smoking or usually strays away from it due to the strong taste.
Plus, the MouthPeaces come in a variety of colors, which make smoke seshes easy to personalize. Another bonus: the company is currently offering a holiday sale, which includes a 20% off discount.
