Delta-8-THC has been a popular product in the cannabis market lately. But, what is it exactly? How can it be consumed? Emerald has put together a short guide for curious consumers on this hot new product.
What is Delta-8-THC?
Delta-8-THC is in close relationship to delta-9-THC, the well-known compound in cannabis. Users will still experience a “high” after consuming delta-8, but it is far less powerful. Many describe its effects as the “middle of the road” product between CBD and THC. Check out the comparison chart below between the cannabinoids — delta-8, delta-9, and CBD — from our friends at MOONWLKR to see if delta-8 is a good fit.
Legality
Unlike delta-9, delta-8 products are federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. The bill legalized hemp — or cannabis plants that have 0.3% delta-9 or less — at the federal level, according to the FDA.
Even though it is federally legal, some states such as Arizona and Utah have banned the substance. That is because there is a grey area surrounding delta-8’s extraction process from other cannabinoids. More specifically, delta-8 occurs naturally in the hemp plant, but at low levels. So, many manufacturers convert the cannabinoid from CBD.
The method used to convert delta-8 from other cannabinoids is a natural, organic process. For example, all cannabinoids begin as the cannabinoid CBGa, the mother of cannabinoids. Stress, age, light, temperature and a combination of other factors alter them, explains Extraction Magazine.
In a lab, however, technicians can convert CBD to delta-8 by adding an organic solvent, like an acid, and adjusting for factors like temperature and time, the publication adds.
Effects
Delta-8, CBD and delta-9 have some similar effects. But what exactly are those effects?
Past users have described feelings of calmness, relaxation, and a euphoric high. As a result, it may be a sleep aid or something to relax throughout the day without getting the overwhelming mental paranoia or anxiety from delta-9.
Research suggests that delta-8 may also be an anti-inflammatory, which can help with pain relief. Another possible effect of delta-8 is that it may have antiemetic properties, which can reduce nausea, making this a potential treatment for hangovers and motion sickness.
Products
There are multiple ways to consume delta-8 that are similar to delta-9. One of our favorite places to buy Delta-8 products is MOONWLKR.
They offer vapes that come in a variety of flavors including grape, orange, strawberry, lemon, and watermelon. One of their latest releases is a strawberry and banana mixture — Strawnana. Each vape cartridge contains 800 mg of delta-8 oil, plant-derived terpenes, and natural flavors.
They also offer a variety of edible flavors including pineapple, watermelon, berry, mango, and strawberry. The gummies contain 25 mg of delta-8 each and there are 25 gummies per bottle.
Past consumers describe the taste of these gummies as “like candy.” The reviews show nothing but great effects and great flavor from these MOONWLKR gummies. Some even experiment with these products by making it into a drink.
With the rise of delta-8, we are excited to see how this product impacts cannabis users around the world. For more information about MOONWLKR and their products, visit their website.
