Smoking accessories made by Women of Color

The cannabis industry is dominated by men. In fact, only 17.6 percent of women in cannabis companies hold a “director” or “executive” role, according to a 2019 Forbes article. Subsequently, as the industry continues to grow, it’s increasingly important to highlight these inequalities and support women-owned businesses when possible. So, if you’re in the market for new smoking accessories, here are six great options — all made by women of color.

Nekktar is a Black-owned cannabis accessories company founded by recent Duke University graduate, Julia Loni Turner. The BUZZBOXX is a doob-tube like storage device that protects everything from flower to cartridges. Moreover, each BUZZBOX is airtight sealed to eliminate moisture and protect supplies from water damage. It is also smell-proof and sealed to extinguish already lit products. “We wanted to make sure to cover the bases with all types of consumers.” Turner told Emerald.

Canna Luxe is a Black-owned luxury smoking accessory brand founded by Tori Owens, Yandy Smith, and Layota Bond. This Pink Ashtray is simple yet beautiful, making it the perfect accent piece for any home. The coolest part? The aluminum interior is removable for easy cleaning and the lid also doubles as a coaster! Aiming to fit each customer’s aesthetic, Canna Luxe also offers a variety of different accessories from ashtrays to pipes, to blunt holders. “Every piece in our lineup has the beauty and aesthetic of a woman in mind,” Owens told Emerald. 

The Cosmic Duo by House of Puff

House of Puff is a Latinx-owned accessories company for modern women, founded by Kristina Lopz Adduci. Driven by art and fashion, their online shop includes everything from cones to rolling trays. The Cosmic Duo comes with their best-selling Galactic Rolling Papers. It also comes with and the hand-blown glass Borealis Cigarette Holder. The Northern Lights inspire many of the company’s designs, including the adela lavender colored pipe, for example, which is absolutely adorable. Purchase them together as a gift set, or a la carte. 

The Apothecarry Case by the Apothecarry

The Apothecarry is a Black-owned cannabis humidor and accessory brand founded by Whitney Beatty. The company’s premier product, the Apothecarry Case, is a discrete and practical humidor meant to keep your products fresh and secure without sacrificing quality or style. It also features an organizational system designed to meet the needs of refined smokers. “Our technologically advanced Humidor and future product line offer the luxury and class that today’s proud modern smoker demands,” reads the companies’ website.

Chica Fresa Bowl by Munisa Ceramica

Munisa Ceramica is a Latinx-owned ceramic accessory company. All pieces are handmade by the founder, pottery teacher Isabela Munoz. The Chica Fresa Bowl is a one-of-a-kind piece that is both fashionable, and functional. Strawberries not your favorite fruit? Munoz’s also offers pipes, ashtrays, and more inspired by other fruits like watermelons and mangoes.

PhoenixFire is a custom glass accessory company founded by Indigenous artist, Fiona Anuweh. Featuring 24-karat gold marble vein and custom dotwork, these ceremonial pipes are the perfect way to spruce up your smoke sesh with sacredness. I will hold this focus for you while I craft the piece,” reads her Etsy page. “I design my pieces to invite the user to honor the power of our plant teacher and to inspire people to empower themselves in their smoking ceremony by setting intentions when the spark,” she told Emerald.
