Former NFL Player LeGarrette Blount Creates CBD Brand Geared Towards Athletes

After three Super Bowl Championships, LeGarrette Blount has set his sights on the CBD industry with his company LG’s Feel Good.

The brand is geared towards professional athletes who traditionally use opioids to manage physical and mental problems during the season. Blount believes that CBD is an effective alternative to opioids that many athletes use to manage pain, anxiety and bad sleep patterns.

There is scientific evidence to support that CBD can help to manage pain, anxiety and insomnia. This is due to CBD’s ability to calm the central nervous system, according to research.

Blount retired from the NFL in 2019, and started LG’s Feel Good to target these three main issues shortly after.

“I started this company because I’m not one of those guys that can just sit around all day and enjoy retirement and my money. I still gotta move,” Blount told Emerald.

Blount’s Journey

Blount started playing contact football at 12-years-old. He went on to be the running back at the University of Oregon. Later, he played for nine seasons in the NFL.

He played for the Patriots, Eagles, Titans, Steelers, Buccaneers and Lions. He won two Super Bowls with the Patriots and one with the Eagles.

After playing for so many years, he began to feel the effects on his body.

“When you are younger, everything heals pretty fast and pretty good. But as you get older, it just doesn’t as much,” Blount explained.

Previous injuries and strain on his body produced pain in his neck, back, shoulders and knees.

Blount was first introduced to CBD as an alternative healing method in 2016 while playing for the Eagles.

After trying several CBD products, he did not get the results he was looking for. However, he began to see the value of natural healing. This motivated Blount to create his own line of CBD products.

“With me being who I am and with me having the audience and the support that I have, I would obviously be able to get it out there more and tweak it and correct all the things that I didn’t like about the other products,” Blount said.

Trusted Brand for Other Athletes

The injury rate in the NFL is 100%, Blount said. “There’s no way you’re getting out of the NFL without any kind of injury.”

Consequently, it is common for NFL players to take multiple opioids for sleep, anxiety and pain during the season, according to Blount. He has seen first-hand the damage opioid use can cause to the liver, kidneys and stomach.

“The league isn’t going to be like don’t take these pills, they’re going to hurt you in 10 years. They’re going to be like take these pills, we need you to play [now],” Blount said.

He saw the need for a safe and effective alternative to opioids for professional athletes. However, he also recognized the hesitancy towards CBD among athletes, due to frequent drug testing.

Drug tests do not look for CBD, but some CBD products contain THC, which may result in a positive drug test. This is why Blount provides a THC-free guarantee for his products.

“I wanted something professional athletes can use without the possibility of failing a drug test or feeling nervous about taking it, or being afraid because they’ve been scammed by other CBD companies that said their products are THC free and guys are still failing tests because of it,” Blount told Emerald.

This motivated him to launch LG’s Feel Good, a 100% THC-free brand that produces products ranging from transdermal patches, to gummies, oil, topical and more. While products are free of THC, the psychoactive cannabinoids in cannabis, they are rich in other cannabinoids including CBD and CBG.

The Products

All LG’s Feel Good products are all-natural and organic. The products are grown, formulated and tested in Oregon.

The company conducts rigorous third-party testing to ensure that all of their products contain no THC. The testing also ensures that products are free from pesticides and contaminants, according to the Oregon Department of Agriculture.

LG’s feel good products are formulated to target specific things like recovery, pain, sleep and anxiety.

For recovery and pain relief, the company offers time release patches, repair balm and recovery rollers. These products can even be used during games and competitions because they are THC-free, Blount explains.

For a calming effect to aid in sleep and reduce anxiety, they offer tinctures and gummies.

The company has received nothing but good reviews and praise, according to Blount.

Blount’s own children use the gummies and tinctures on a daily basis.

“My stuff isn’t going to be extremely addictive and it’s not going to be bad for you,” he added. “Even if you get into a routine where you are using it every single day, it can only help you.”

Not Just for Athletes

Blount understands that he has the credibility to be able to gain the trust of professional athletes.

However, he also recognizes the value his products can have for everyday people.

As such, Blount believes that LG’s Feel Good pain and recovery products would be great for construction workers, the elderly and members of the military. The brand has also received positive feedback from doctors, mothers and truck drivers.

Blount markets his products towards athletes because they have to be more careful about the THC concentration of their products.

According to Forbes, other professions like healthcare, transportation, aviation, government and education often require drug testing as well. These professionals must also ensure their products are THC-free.

“Everyday common people can use anything, but when it comes to drug testing and things like that you want to make sure that stuff is clean,” Blount said.

Nevertheless, Blount considers his products to be some of the best on the market for anyone interested in CBD. This is due to the countless hours Blount and his team put into perfecting the product’s formulation.

“I would go to bat with any CBD company in the country,” he said.
