Have Your Pie and Smoke it Too: 5 Strains to Celebrate Pi Day

March 14, 2020 by Rita Thompson Leave a Comment

Pi Day is celebrated every year on March 14 in recognition of the mathematical sign, pi. The day was founded in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw because of the numerical dates corresponding digits 3.14 (the first free digits of pi).

Those of us who have surpassed our grade school days usually miss out on fun Pi Day activities that come with a classroom. Fear not, though, because the Emerald has created a list of five pie-themed strains to help you celebrate Pi Day in an adult-esque fashion.

Grape Pie

Grape Pie is an indica dominant cross of Cherry Pie and the Gage Green Group’s Grape Stomper. Ridden with peppery, earthy and fruity primary notes, this strain offers a deliciously sour and sugary grape aroma. Users describe the high as both calming and energizing, as the THC levels tend to average in the high teens. If you’re leaning towards Grape Pie on this Pi Day, make sure you’ve got a movie picked out because you’ll likely find yourself settling into the couch for some binge-watching. May we recommend Darren Aronofsky’s film, Pi?

Cherry Cream Pie

Cherry Cream Pie, created by Exotic Genetix, is a combination of Cherry Pie and Cookies and Cream. This sightly indica-dominant strain grows indoors and outdoors but thrives in hot, humid climates. Expect OG notes with a hint of tart and pine, followed by feelings of hunger, and relaxation. With a 27% THC content, we’d recommend this strain to more experienced consumers. It’s also known for a strong body high, so probably best for evening use.

Blueberry Pie

Blueberry Pie is an indica-dominant hybrid of Girl Scout Cookies and Blue Dream. The two popular strains came together to create an intense, yet relaxing strain well suited for many uses. Blueberry Pie is ridden with the aromatic scent of its namesake and known to relieve stress and pain. It’s a relatively uncommon strain, but if you manage to get your hands on it, expect feelings of relaxation and happiness.

Analytical 360 has found samples of Blueberry Pie to contain approximately 20% THC content.

Key Lime Pie

This indica-dominant hybrid strain has a phenotype of Girl Scout Cookies. The strain is credited to California-based breeder, Burnish Bush Nurseries, and is said to have a THC composition of between 20% to 30%.  Regardless of its name, you can expect hints of spice and musk when burning this flower. Prepare to face heavy relaxation, ideal for painkilling and minor aches and pains. This strain is somewhat rare, however, so you may have a hard time finding these greenish-purple, fur-covered nugs commercially.

Pie Face OG

Pie Face OG is a 60/40 indica-dominant strain with a sweet cherry and earth hash flavor. Created by Archive Seed Bank, the strain is a cross between Face Off OG and Cherry Pie. Users report that the strain’s effects provide mental clarity to stay upbeat and engaged throughout the day. Thus, we’d recommend this to wake and bakers, or social afternoon tokers with an incomplete to-do list. Regardless of its indica status, expect quick-setting feelings of euphoria, relaxation and a bit of the giggles from Pie Face OG.
