Meadows Café

The Best Kept Secret in Southern Humboldt

Victoria Voss

Hundreds of visitors and travelers sweep through the streets of Southern Humboldt every year. But only the locals know about the sweet spot that sits on top of the hill in the Meadows Business Park.

Meadows Café in Redway is unlike any other eatery in Southern Humboldt. Driving around the business park is like being a part of the area’s best kept secret. Just entering the café alone is an inviting and illuminating experience. From the bright paintings on the wall to the neon colored menu signs, Meadows Café succeeds in bringing out the best.

The crowd at Meadows Café is comprised of both young and old. While children often rush through the double doors excited for their smoothies, others patiently wait and appreciate the time they have to look over the menu’s options.

A popular choice amongst the café’s customers is the Italian Grinder, stuffed full of salami, ham, turkey, peperoncini, balsamic vinegar, tomatoes, and provolone. The Grinder is the ultimate meat lovers choice, and comes served on warm focaccia bread. Another (personal) favorite is the Mozzarella Bistro, also served on toasted focaccia bread with melted mozzarella cheese, balsamic vinegar, tomatoes and pesto.

If the food doesn’t warm you up, the people behind the counter surely will. When asking a local patron why he chooses to eat at Meadows his reply is simple, “The food is great, and the workers are even better!” The truth couldn’t be put more simply. The ambiance and atmosphere at Meadows has been whats kept me coming back for months.

From the delightful owner to the equally sweet employees, there’s something about Meadows Café that brings an instant smile to your face. Whether it’s the sound of singing coming from behind the counter, or the dancing rhythm of the clerk, Meadows Café  is Grade: A in dining experience. The next time you find yourself in Redway’s neighborhood, drop in to see what the secret is all about.
