Spoil Yourself With These Seven Strains for Self-Care

June 24, 2021 by Megan ONeill 1 Comment

self-care strains

Each strain of cannabis has the potential to help certain issues such as chronic pain, depression, or anxiety. Additionally, while some can be energizing, others are relaxing.

Cannabis’ ability to treat a wide range of symptoms is in part due to each strain’s distinct set of compounds. A particular strain’s natural assortment of compounds, including cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids give it certain properties, whether it’s promoting calm or creativity.

For people on the search for calming, self-care strains, it’s helpful to know the physiological and mental effects of different types of cannabis. Emerald has rounded up seven strains that radiate positivity and strive to relieve stress.

Seven Strains for Self-Care

Charlotte’s Web

This strain was named after Charlotte Figi. Figi had a rare seizure disorder — Dravet Syndrome — that caused her to suffer from several seizures every day. According to Figi’s parents, this strain greatly decreased her episodes to the point where she was able to enjoy her life.

One of Charlotte’s Web’s main properties is its ability to treat various conditions including migraines, epilepsy, muscle spasms, and fatigue. The general effects for the users include euphoria, focus, and relaxation. It is also reported to taste earthy or piney.

Charlotte’s Web is high in CBD and low in THC. It’s most dominant terpene is myrcene. Myrcene, according to seed bank Royal Queen Seeds, has sedative, anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects.

A survey on Leafly mentioned that 53% of people that use Charlotte’s Web feel relaxed, and 35% of people feel relief from stress and anxiety.

Cannatonic

Cannatonic is capable of producing an uplifting and powerfully relaxing high. Users say it’s got an earthy or woody flavor, and it helps relieve stress by bringing about feelings of happiness and euphoria.

Additionally, Weedmaps mentions that Cannatonic has a high CBD content, which initiates its very relaxing effects.

Due to its high CBD content, Cannatonic may be a great strain for topicals, reports Emerald. Additionally, it may help with arthritis and inflammation. Cannatonic’s effects include a warm, numbing feeling in the body combined with relaxed alertness and mental clarity.

Cherry Pie

Cherry Pie is referred to as one of the best strains courtesy of its reviews on Allbud, due to its aroma that is similar to that of a cherry pie. It has a different flavor profile than most strains listed here. Like its namesake suggests, consumers report that it tastes sweet and berry-like.

Cannabis and Glass, a dispensary in Washington and Oregon, explains that Cherry Pie only takes a few minutes to produce the initial high. The high has a cerebral feeling, which some notice produces clear and positive thoughts. Additionally, a unique trait about Cherry Pie is that it can produce an intense body high without initiating groggy feelings.

Cherry Pie is high in caryophyllene, a terpene shown to have pain-relieving and calming properties, reports Emerald. As such, it promotes relaxation, and may even be helpful for insomnia.

Sour Tsunami

Sour Tsunami, a citrusy tasting strain, “became famous for being one of the first strains specifically bred for [its] high CBD rather than THC content,” according to Leafly. Like Charlotte’s Web, it is also high in myrcene. As such, it has the ability to treat pain without giving the consumer an overwhelming high, Leafly adds.

CannaSOS, a social cannabis network, states that Sour Tsunami produces a clear-headed high and induces stress-relief and pain alleviation. Additionally, it has potential to treat seizures and insomnia, similar to most of the other strains listed.

Sour Tsunami is characterized as earthy and citrusy by reviews from Leafly.

Remedy

This strain has a slow-building high that leaves the consumer in a mellow state of relaxation. It is also high in myrcene. Way of Leaf, a medical cannabis resource, states that Remedy can help relieve pain, inflammation, and anxiety disorders.

Remedy is a by-product of Cannatonic and Afghan Skunk. According to Marijuana Guides, it is high in CBD, but low in THC.

According to Allbud, the experience is quite different from a strain high in THC because it won’t produce a jarring or unpleasant effect.

Furthermore, 65%t of people on Leafly who have tried the strain have reported strong feelings of relaxation and relief from anxiety. Similar to Cannatonic, Leafly classifies Remedy as having an earthy and woody flavor as well.

Blue Dream

When it comes to strains for self-care, Blue Dream is one of the classics. It is also one of the most popular strains on the market. A cross between two other popular strains, Haze and Blueberry, reports Emerald — users know it for having sweet, yet tart, notes. Consumers also report that it creates a balanced, peaceful high.

Like many other strains on this list, Blue Dream is high in myrcene. Pinene — another terpene — which may reduce anxiety.

Jack Herer

According to Euphoria Wellness, a licensed cannabis dispensary, “Jack Herer is a sativa-dominant strain of cannabis named after the legendary pro-cannabis activist and author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes.”

This namesake strain produces a “happy, bubbly, and euphoric” high, sparking creativity and liveliness, according to consumer reviews on Allbud. Additionally, Jack Herer has the ability to relieve migraines, anxiety, and symptoms of ADHD.

IN terms of flavor, Leafly reports that Jack Herer has earthy and piney flavors, just like Charlotte’s Web.

MCR Labs, a cannabis testing laboratory, states that the highest concentration of terpenes in Jack Herer are most commonly terpinolene or beta-myrcene. These contribute to the overall aroma of this strain.

Considering that there is such an abundance of cannabis strains on the market, it could be difficult for consumers to find the best strain for their specific needs. If the consumer’s needs run along the lines of relaxation and self-care properties, these strains could lead the way.
