CBD skin care might be the next big thing. But does it really work?
I tested two CBD-infused skincare products from Meraki, a Nashville-based company that provides quality plant-based products. They source from Colorado, so you know you’re getting the good stuff. Their skincare is also vegan, gluten-free and free of SLS, talc, parabens and silicones.
But the question still remains: does it work?
The Oil Cleanser
$39.99
300 mg CBD
Meraki’s Perfect 10 Oil Cleanser is formulated with 10 naturally derived oils. The two most notable are marula oil and argan oil, which both aid in hydration. It’s also infused with 300 mg of CBD isolate as backed up by the test results which can be found on their website.
When I was first introduced to the product, the term “oil cleanser” seemed like an oxymoron to me. I’d never used an oil-based cleanser before, so I didn’t quite understand how the product was going to work.
Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. Meraki advises to apply the product to dry skin and then rinse with warm water. Using a cleanser on my face while dry was a new experience for me, so it felt a little weird at first.
After getting used to the application, I felt like the oil really helped break down my makeup, especially mascara. I usually use makeup wipes to take off mascara because it’s so hard to remove with my regular face wash. By using this cleanser instead, it allowed me to cut out makeup wipes from my routine. Lowering the amount of waste I produce has been something I’ve focused on a lot in 2020 in the spirit of trying to go more green. Thanks to this cleanser, makeup wipes are now off my conscience.
However, I can’t say that I noticed any extra hydration or nourishment from this product. It’s meant to be used on its own, but I found that I liked to use it in combination with my regular face wash. I ended up using it as more of a makeup remover, because I felt like my skin needed some extra love beyond just the cleanser. Thus, I don’t think the CBD content in this product made much of a difference in comparison to a normal cleanser.

The Charcoal Mask
$39.99
300 mg of CBD
Meraki’s Detoxifying Charcoal Mask has 300 mg of CBD isolate along with activated charcoal and kaolin clay that help remove impurities while retaining moisture in the skin.
This mask does have a rose scent, so if your skin is sensitive to fragrance this one might not be for you. Personally, I didn’t experience any irritation from the fragrance. I actually found that the scent of this product was very clean, fresh and not too strong.
Clay-based masks are typically rather drying, so I typically use them as an intensive treatment when I’m experiencing a lot of breakouts. Therefore, I don’t use clay masks very often. This one actually left me feeling hydrated and refreshed, so I didn’t feel like I had to limit my usage to only when my skin is really crying out for help.
The mask definitely helped calm the redness in my skin. I did also notice the “healthy glow” that the product description mentioned. I think this product would be great to use on a weekly basis, since it’s not too harsh. I’ll be pulling it out for sure on my next self-care night.

Final Thoughts on Meraki’s CBD skincare
All-in-all, I enjoyed using these products. They didn’t break me out, which is a major win, and I felt like they helped calm my skin while keeping it feeling fresh and hydrated. As compared to my usual skincare lineup, I think the CBD in these products acted as a natural way to nourish my skin without needing to use harsh chemicals to get the job done.
