Is it worth growing CBD strains?

The general misconception surrounding the cultivation and usage of cannabis has significantly reduced. Thanks to countless research, studies, and scientific journals highlighting its recreational, medical, and nutritional benefits. The typical cannabis plant contains over 140 cannabinoids with THC and CBD being the most active and popular compounds.

Tetrahydrocannabinol is the chemical compound that is responsible for inducing euphoric and mind-altering effects on users when smoked or vaped. CBD on the other hand has the opposite effect as it doesn’t give its users the feeling of ecstasy usually associated with consuming THC-rich strains. Rather it exudes a relaxing and clear-headed feel on its users.  Although CBD on its own doesn’t give a mind-altering sensation, feelings of euphoria can be experienced by users when they consume a strain that has an equally high amount of both compounds.

As a result of its non-psychoactive effects, CBD-rich seeds or strains have been legally permitted both for cultivation and consumption in most climes. Its growing acceptance can also be traced to its non-addictive tendencies, ability to reduce the negative effects of THC on the body, and clinical benefits.

Definition of High CBD strains

High CBD seeds or strains can be described as seeds that have a CBD content of more than 4% in their dried buds. The CBD content of these strains usually ranges from 4%- 15% and they are usually the delight of medical users, growers, and recreational users who love its relaxing qualities.

It is worthy of mention that the term High CBD seeds can mean two things

  1. A seed or strain with a very high CBD content and a very low amount of THC. They are often called Pure CBD seeds.
  2. A seed or strain with an equally high amount of THC and CBD. According to Highway420, these kinds of strains would be the top choice for recreational users with medical needs.

Benefits of High CBD strains

Whether you want to grow these strains for yourself or you want to sell them in the booming CBD market, you are on the right track as these strains are rich in medical benefits. One of the perks of this CBD variety is its anti-inflammatory attributes which dermatologists have described as a vital resource in most acne-combatting skin care products.

Also, its anti-inflammatory nature makes it a good relief for joint pain, muscular pain, and some cancer-related symptoms. An attestation to its effective medical application is the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of Epidiolex which is a CBD-infused oral solution used in the treatment of epilepsy and seizures.

CBD oil which is one of the derivatives of this strain has also been used in combatting opioid addiction and inducing sleep in cases of insomnia. Recent studies have also shown that high CBD strains can be a remedy to some psychological conditions like PTSD and anxiety by reducing increased heart rate usually experienced during such episodes.

Top 5 High CBD strains to consider

  1. ACDC

On the top of the list is this hybrid strain which has a high CBD to THC ratio. The CBD ratio of this variety is usually between 15%-20% while the average THC concentration of this strain is 6%. Some strains contain a THC concentration of as little as 0.42.

  1. Charlotte’s Web

Charlotte’s Web is an Indica-dominant hybrid with an extremely low THC content of 0.3%. This strain contains a 17% CBD content with some varieties having about 20% of this cannabinoid. As a result of its extremely low THC content, this Indica dominant strain has no cerebral effects on its users.

Unlike most strains which are typically consumed by smoking, the CW is usually consumed in CBD oil form either sublingually or by infusion into food and drinks.

  1. Ringo’s Gift

Ringo’s gift is a slightly Sativa dominant hybrid boasting of an insanely high CBD to THC ratio of 20: 1. This variety is the result of a cross between two CBD-rich strains namely ACDC and Harle-Tsu. With its earthy taste and aroma, users can expect a soothing euphoric feeling that doesn’t keep the couch-locked. As a result of its ability to make its users sociable, this variety is a good daytime option.

Ringo’s Gift is a familiar strain amongst individuals suffering from chronic pain, stress, gastrointestinal disorders, and PTSD.

  1. CBD Auto Charlotte’s Angel

This strain is an award-winning Sativa-dominant hybrid from Dutch passion with a CBD concentration of 10%-15%. Its THC levels are always below 1%. This THC-rich auto flowering strain is noted for its strength and its adaptability to any kind of grooming environment. Also as a result of its amazing yields, this variety is the dream of every grower.

Apart from the aforementioned features, this feminized variety is noted for its relaxing effects similar to the one provided by a typical Indica.

  1. Harlequin CBD

Harlequin is a photoperiod Sativa-dominant hybrid with a CBD content of 15%-17%. Its THC levels are barely noticeable as it only possesses a 0.2% concentration of this mind-altering compound. This strain is an offspring of the crossing between the traditional Harlequin which has high THC and CBD levels and the Black Domina. This crossing by Kera stemmed from the need to reduce its THC concentration to ensure the legality of this variety in some parts of Europe.

When taken, Harlequin relaxes the tensed nerves of its users and induces sleep, especially when used before bed.

In Conclusion

Since the discovery of high CBD strains, the cannabis sector has witnessed an influx of a new category of users and growers as a result of its efficacy in treating or alleviating a host of medical conditions. This assertion is further backed by statistics that show that as of 2021, the CBD market accounted for a whopping $12.8 billion.

With this in mind, whether you grow these seeds for personal consumption or sale in the CBD market, you are on your lifelong journey to wellness or wealth.
