Despite overwhelming support, the VA still does not recommend cannabis use for vets. Photo credit: Bumble Dee.
There are more than 19 million veterans in America, according to PEW Research.
Nearly 13% of these veterans experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), according to a 2017 study in the PLoS One journal.
However, some find that a third of all veterans will experience PTSD, reports Veterans of Forgein Wars (VFW).
One recent study, which appears in the Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research journal, showed that cannabis helped reduce the rates of PTSD in veterans. For example, the study found that “participants who used cannabis were 2.57 times more likely to no longer meet DSM-5 criteria for PTSD […] compared to participants who did not use cannabis.”
While 83% of U.S. veterans support medical cannabis, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities throughout America do not provide medical cannabis services, according to the Veterans Cannabis Project. Because it remains a schedule I drug, the VA doctors and health professionals cannot prescribe or recommend it.
However, many veteran-owned cannabis companies and organizations are making it a mission to fill this gap.
Below are 13 veteran-owned cannabis brands or organizations whose goals are to provide therapeutic alternatives to vets, and beyond.

Thank you for talking about this. In fact, we all need to understand that this is not just some kind of desire for pleasure, it is literally necessary for them for a normal life. I don’t think I need to explain that such people are faced with terrible events during the service and if it becomes easier for them to live taking CBD, then I do not see this as a problem at all. I would also like to say thanks to all organizations that help veterans. We must respect those who stood up for our peaceful sleep and helped us live life without these horrors.
