Level Protabs have caught the attention of California consumers, quickly rising to the top of their shopping lists.
Level is a California-based cannabis company that specializes in developing “effects-based cannabis products by formulating cannabinoids in ratios not accessible from the plant alone,” according to its website.
For example, Level offers a broad range of products, which are categorized by their effects (hangover, sleep, etc.), strain (hybrid, sativa, etc.), or cannabinoid (delta 8-THC, CBDa, etc.).
The company’s founder, Chris Emerson, PhD, was driven to launch Level to highlight the power of a broad range of cannabinoids. As the company explains, “the world of legal cannabis was prioritizing one cannabinoid and one cannabinoid only: delta-9 THC. […] But if you want to explore all the possibilities of cannabis, you need to tap into the plant’s more than 65 other, lesser-known cannabinoids.”
As such, Level’s product lineup features a wide range of both major and minor cannabinoids, from different forms of THC to CBC, CBG, THCa, CBN, CBDa and more.
The brand is quickly becoming one of the top-selling tablet lines in the U.S., according to Headset.
For example, the brand ranks number one for sales in California, BDSA finds. Among its most popular products are its Protab+ tablets, which include separate Boost, Recover and Lights Out options.
To determine if these Protab+ products are worthy of the hype, Emerald got our hands on this lineup — all of which are vegan, and gluten, sugar and calorie-free.

While each of Levels Protab+s feature 100% cannabis-only cannabinoids, terpenoids, and flavonoids — each variety has a distinct profile. The special combinations target certain effects, which each color-coded tablet is labeled after.
Recover, for example, contains THCa, CBDa, CBG, CBC and small amounts of THC per tablet. Level includes a rundown of these cannabinoids under the product description on their website. The company designed this combination to enhance relief, and ease pain — which can be ideal after workouts, when sick or post-injury.
After swallowing one tablet with water, we began to notice Recover’s effects within one hour. It produced a very mild high. But mostly, it offered relaxation, and anti-inflammatory relief (and even eased allergy symptoms like congestion and sore throats). Due to its low THC and high CBDa and CBD content, these tablets shined for producing relaxing, rather than a “high,” effects.
Boost

Level suggests that Boost’s effect enhances focus and energy, and may suppress appetite. To achieve this, the company uses a blend of THC, THCv, CBC, THCa, and low amounts of CBD.
Similar to Recover, the effects from Boost also took an hour to set in. Unlike the previous tablet, however, Boost offered a bit more of a potent high. The high was unique for a consumable. It was fairly intense, but not in a couch-lock way. In fact, it did have an energizing effect, which — like the label promises — did boost focus (especially on creative tasks, rather than something like stimulating a conversation). Surprisingly, it also reduced our appetite.
Lights Out

Level uses a blend of THC, CBN, delta-8 THC, THCa and CBG to induce a state of maximum relaxation.
Like the other tablets, it took effect in roughly 60 minutes. Those effects were potent, as this variety offered the most intense high of the Protab+ series. Aside from being a moderate sedative, it had deeply relaxing, anti-anxiety benefits. While it didn’t exactly put us to sleep, it prepared us for restful nights by calming our minds and bodies.
Test Results
A certificate of analysis (COA) or third-party test results are a key way that both consumers and brands can determine whether products meet safety and potency standards. For example, COAs show whether a good is free of harmful things like pesticides. It also confirms the cannabinoid content of products.
According to experts, products (cannabis or otherwise) should contain a margin of +/- 10% of what is advertised on the product label. For instance — if a label says a product contains 100 mg of THC, test results should confirm it contains no more than 10 mg of THC in either direction ( 90-110 mg of THC). It if falls within the 10% margin, it earns an A; within 20% or less, a B; 30% a C; and 31% or more gets an F
Fortunately, Level makes these COAs available directly on their website. The company also prints the batch number for the test results on the individual product labels.
According to those results, all passed screenings for pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, etc.
The COA for Recover confirmed it contained 301.52 mg of cannabinoids per box — very close to the advertised content of 300 mg per box, or 30+ mg cannabinoids per tablet. This earns an A.
Boost’s COA also confirmed it contained 331.05 mg of cannabinoids per box. While this falls just outside the 10% margin by 1 mg, it does align with the advertised content of 30+ mg per tablet (more specifically, about 33 mg), which earns it an A.
For Lights Out, test results showed a total of 343.88 cannabinoids per box. Like Boost, this aligns with the company’s promise of providing 30+ mg of cannabinoids (for about 34 mg) per tablet, also earning it an A.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Level Protab+ products offered effects that were pretty spot on with their promises. They also definitely offered effects-based experiences. Additionally, the company’s test results were readily available, and matched what was labeled on the boxes; i.e. they were all accurately advertised as having 30+ mg of cannabinoids per tablet.
What’s most impressive is the special blend of cannabinoids in each variety. We especially enjoyed experiencing both the major (THC and CBD) and minor (THCa, CBC, etc) cannabinoids, as each have notable benefits. The entourage effect these tablets produced was exceptional, and potent.
In terms of the price point, $26 per box on average is about on par with similar products on the market.
Compared to other edibles, we’d say these are more of a go-to for those seeking the more medicinal benefits of the compounds in cannabis. This is especially because they are targeted, and may offer relief for those experiencing sleep issues, or pain. They are not micro-dosed, so effects are strong, and take effect all at once. As such, we agree with the company’s suggestion to start with half to one tablet, and use it with intention.
