Self-care is an important aspect in maintaining a healthy relationship with yourself, according to Forbes. “It produces positive feelings and boosts your confidence and self-esteem,” and further, reminds oneself of the importance of personal needs.
For some, a quick face mask will do; for others a weekly self-care Sunday is key.
Regardless of your routine, cannabis is a great addition that can help enhance your self-care experience.
Thus, in celebration of International Self-Care Day on July 24th, the Emerald is putting together a list of tips and tricks for cannabis self-care.
Bath
There’s nothing a hot bath can’t fix.
Baths are a great way to relieve stress, ease muscle tension, and often allow for a better night’s sleep.
In fact, according to Pentucket Medical Online, bathing is scientifically proven to improve everything from heart health, to hormone imbalances.
Both cannabis advocates and non-users alike have promoted the healing benefits of CBD products like bath salts, bath bombs, and scrubs for pain relief in muscles and bones, stress relief, anti-aging properties, and more.
Martha Van Inwegen, CEO of Life Elements, explained to The Zoe Report that there are a variety of patients currently benefiting from her company’s CBD bath bombs.
“Retired military vets have used [bath bombs] to calm their bodies so they can get a good night’s sleep. Professional athletes use them as an integral part of the recovery regime. The elderly are using CBD bath bombs to help with arthritis, busy moms are using it to relax at the end of the day, couples use them to enjoy a romantic bath together, and yogis use them to give them more flexibility … the uses are endless!”

Topicals
Available as everything from lotions to balsam, to salves, to oils—topicals include virtually anything applied to the skin.
Because they are applied topically, and not ingested, topicals lack psychoactive properties and thus are non-intoxicating, meaning, they won’t get you high. Even if they contain THC.
Topicals are most commonly used for pain relief, muscle soreness, tension, and inflammation. The appeal of these products is that they are fast-acting, and can alleviate symptoms of skin irritations, burns, inflammation, and even psoriasis.

Sexual Wellness
For some people, cannabis can make sex more comfortable, boost intimacy, and even enhance orgasms.
In fact, a 2017 study titled, “Association Between Marijuana Use and Sexual Frequency in the United States,” found that cannabis users have approximately 20% more sex than non-users.
Researchers have also found evidence that cannabinoids stimulate females’ sexual experience. The 2012 study, titled “Circulating Endocannabinoid Concentrations and Sexual Arousal in Women,” revealed “a significant relationship between endocannabinoid concentrations and female sexual arousal […].”
Further, topical products like Her Highness’ CBD Pleasure Oil, have been said to enhance sensation and climax through CBD’s ability to improve blood flow and relieve muscle tension.
While the effects of cannabis on sex-drive are still being researched, it’s clear that cannabis gets people to appreciate things more, whether it be music, food, or sex.

Skin-Care
Many cannabis advocates swear by CBD skincare products, as they are antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and have even been said to tackle zits at every level.
While research confirms acne’s place as an inflammatory condition, CBD is a great anti-inflammatory with calming benefits that can make your skin look, and feel better.
Ildi Pekar, an NYC-based esthetician, advocated for CBD’s healing properties in an interview with Forbes, stating, “cannabidiol offers some serious antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits which can be beneficial in treating skin concerns like inflammation, dryness and free radical damage.”
Of course, different products work better for different people, and we cannot recommend one to everyone. We can, however, suggest researching a variety of products to find what best suits your skin.

Meditation and Sleep
It’s no secret that a good night’s sleep is the key to a happy, healthy, day.
However, sleep is a battle often lost for those suffering from stress, insomnia, and more.
Fortunately, cannabis is a known sleep aid effective in restoring a person’s natural sleep cycle. THC’s effect on sleep has been studied by many researchers, who have found cannabis extracts to provide a 26% reduction of insomnia symptoms.
Another way to help promote a better night’s sleep is with meditation, often improved by the comfort and stress relief provided by cannabis.
Many users report that a few hits before their session offers them a heightened awareness of their mind and body, allowing them to more easily settle into a meditative state.
